FAQs

Can participants register for more than one race category?
No. Each participant is allowed to register for only one race category (2 km, 5 km, 10 km, or 21.1 km). Multiple registrations by the same participant are not permitted.
When and where will the Half Marathon be held?
The Half Marathon will be held on 24th January 2026 at Ispat Stadium, Sector-6, Rourkela.
Will there be any cultural events along with the marathon?
Yes, cultural events featuring live performances by singers will be held at Ispat Stadium from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM on the day of the event.
What medical facilities will be available during the event?
Adequate medical teams, ambulances, and first-aid counters will be stationed at each of the 10 Fun Corners along the route.
Will volunteers be present to guide participants?
Yes, volunteers and route marshals will be deployed throughout the route and venue to assist and guide participants.
Do participants need to sign any undertaking before the event that RSP will not be responsible for any eventualities during the marathon?
Yes, participants are required to digitally sign a declaration form during the online registration process, confirming that they are participating at their own risk and that RSP will not be responsible for any eventualities during the marathon.
How will traffic be managed during the event?
Police and traffic personnel will be deployed along the route and nearby areas to ensure smooth traffic movement and participant safety throughout the event.
What about medical emergencies along the route?
Three fully equipped ambulances with doctors and paramedical staff will be deployed at three key corners of the route to handle any medical emergencies promptly.
Is there an official website or publicity for the event?
Yes, the official website for the event is www.rourkelamarathon.com. All event-related updates, registration details, and announcements will be available there, along with publicity through social media and local media channels.
Who can participate?
The marathon is open to all individuals aged 12 years and above. Categories include Below 18, 18–45, 45+, and Specially-Abled (all ages).
How will registration be done?
Registration will be done online through www.rourkelamarathon.com with ₹100 fee. Participants from peripheral villages are exempted.
Will there be refreshments?
Yes, refreshments and energy drinks will be provided at multiple points and after the run at Ispat Stadium.
What does the registration fee cover?
Race BIB with RFID, T-shirt, water, medical help, refreshment, and participation e-certificate.
How will the marathon be monitored?
Monitored by a third-party using tracking software and checkpoints for fair participation and accuracy.
Are there any special facilities for outside participants?
Yes, accommodation will be arranged for participants from peripheral villages. Others must arrange their own stay.

Will there be drone monitoring during the event?
Yes, drone surveillance will be conducted for real-time monitoring and crowd management.
Will there be observers during the marathon?
Yes, participants, their families and spectators will be present.
Will there be mascot rallies or promotional events?
Yes, mascot rallies and awareness runs will be held in Steel Township from 1st November, 2025.
Will stadium participation be open for everyone?
Yes, entry will be open to participants, families, and spectators.
What about security and checking?
Comprehensive security arrangements will be made at Ispat Stadium.
Will there be accommodation for participants?
Yes, provided for participants from peripheral villages; others must arrange their own stay.
What is the race distance?
21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km and 2 km (for specially abled runners only).
How will winners be awarded?
Medals, e-certificates, and cash prizes for winners. All finishers receive medals.
What time does the event start?
The Half Marathon will start at 5:00 AM.
How can participants contact the organising team for queries?

Is the race route suitable and supportive for barefooted runner?
No. Barefoot running is not allowed on the route.
Will there be parking facilities available for participants and visitors?
Yes. Parking for participants at Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium; for visitors at Ispat Stadium football field.
Can participants change their registered category or distance after registration?
No, changes are not allowed after registration.
Can participants transfer their registration to someone else?
No, registration is non-transferable.
Will there be shuttle/transport services for participants?
Yes, transportation will be provided for participants from peripheral villages.
How will participants be informed of any last minute changes or announcements?
Updates will be on the official site and via SMS notifications.
Where can participants collect their t-shirts?
Local & Outstation paricipants will collect their T-shirts & BIB's kits on 20th to 22nd and 23rd January 2026 respectively at At Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector 6.
What is the deadline to register for the marathon?
The last date for registration is 10th January 2026.
How will a participant prove they are from a “peripheral village”?
They must present an Aadhaar Card showing residence in a peripheral village.
Are there restrictions on footwear or equipment?
Participants must wear running shoes. Skates, bicycles, or motorized aids are prohibited.
Is there a limit to the total number of participants?
Yes, the maximum is 5,500 participants.
Is there any provision for offline registration?
No, registration is available online only.

Terms & Conditions

  1. Eligibility & Participation
    • Only on-ground event participants who are officially declared winners shall be eligible for prize money.
    • Participants must be physically and medically fit to take part in a half marathon and must not have been advised by any medical professional to avoid intense physical activity.
    • Participants must not suffer from any known medical condition, including but not limited to cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, or chronic illnesses, that may place them at undue risk during the event.
    • Any participant currently serving a ban or suspension imposed by a recognized sports, athletic, or anti-doping authority is strictly prohibited from participating in the event in any capacity.
    • Any participant debarred by a Sports or Athletic Association shall not be eligible for awards or prize money.
  2. Health & Liability Disclaimer
    • Participation is entirely at the participant’s own risk.
    • In the event of any injury, illness, or health-related incident, Rourkela Steel Plant / SAIL shall not be held responsible under any circumstances.
  3. Doping & Fair Play
    • Any athlete selected for doping control must submit to testing as directed by the Organizing Committee or authorized anti-doping agency.
    • Athletes are strictly responsible for any prohibited substance found in their body.
    • Any athlete receiving performance-enhancing medical treatment (including IV fluids, stimulants, or oxygen assistance beyond emergency medical care) shall be immediately disqualified from prize eligibility.
  4. Disqualification & Misconduct
    • Athletes shall be disqualified and lose prize eligibility if found guilty of:
      • Receiving unauthorized physical assistance.
      • Receiving pacing assistance outside permitted rules.
      • Using unofficial pacers, rotating pacing, or relay-style assistance.
      • Receiving aid from unauthorized persons or vehicles.
      • Using non-approved footwear or equipment.
      • Competing under a false name, age, or nationality (such violations will result in permanent disqualification from prize consideration).
      • Unsportsmanlike conduct, including:
        • Deliberate obstruction of other runners.
        • Physical or verbal abuse.
        • Cheating, course cutting, or manipulation of results.
      • Display of unauthorized political, religious, or commercial messages.
  5. Timing & Results
    • Only results recorded through the official electronic chip timing system shall be recognized.
    • Missing, damaged, altered, or improperly worn timing chips shall result in ineligibility for prizes, even if the race is completed.
    • Electronic chip timing may be used to determine results across all categories.
  6. Devices & Equipment
    • Use of devices that provide real-time pacing, coaching, or tactical instruction during the race may result in disqualification from prize eligibility, unless explicitly permitted by the organizers.
  7. Prize Money
    • Prize money is non-transferable and payable only to the eligible athlete.
    • Applicable taxes and statutory formalities shall apply.
    • Prize money will be disbursed within 10 days of marathon after proper verification.
    • In the event of disqualification, prize money shall be redistributed to the next eligible athletes in the official standings.
    • Athletes agree to refund prize money if found in violation of rules at a later stage, without requiring any court order.
  8. Event Rules & Compliance
    • Participants must strictly follow the designated route and comply with instructions given by race officials, volunteers, and security personnel.
    • Participants must deposit their baggage at the designated counter at Hockey Stadium, Sector 5.
    • Failure to collect the race kit within the stipulated period may result in forfeiture of participation.
  9. Registration & Refund Policy
    • Once the registration payment is made, the amount is non-refundable under any circumstances.
  10. Rights & Amendments
    • The Organizers reserve the right to add, amend, or remove any clause at their sole discretion.
    • All rights related to the event are reserved with Rourkela Steel Plant, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
